Recording Industry Association of New Zealand. UK Albums Chart. Retrieved 31 August Retrieved 11 February Bowie ditched most of his elaborate stage design, and added an opening set by the "Mike Garson Band"—his own group, fronted by Vandross and Clark. Their set included a terrific Vandross original, " Funky Music ," as well as a reworked version of Bowie's hippie mantra "Memory of a Free Festival. When the group returned to the studio in November to try to get a little more Win - David Bowie - Young Americans oomph into the album, they unsuccessfully tried to record "Foot Stomping.
Bowie had also befriended John Lennon around that time, and invited him along to play guitar on a cover of his Beatles -era song "Across the Universe" at a final session in January, Also present then, for the first time on a Bowie record: drummer Dennis Davis, who would go on to be the hidden rhythmic genius of all of his records up through 's Scary Monsters. But bringing Win - David Bowie - Young Americans in yielded an unexpected dividend: Alomar's "Foot Stompin'" riff, a bit Win - David Bowie - Young Americans arrangement brainstorming Alexandria - Various - Its All Greek - Songs And Dances Lennon, On Acid - Last Men Standing - This Is Ibiza a sharp, bitter lyric from Bowie combined, very quickly, into the stunning funk track "Fame.
Great album. Both in musical direction and overall quality. Too boring. Outstanding tunes: - Good tunes: Young Americans and Fame. Next album please. And 'Fascination' is pretty sweet. Good review.
I'll check this out cause I like Low and Ziggy by Bowie. I'm scared to listen to this because I heard an incredible cover of Young Americans and it might taint the music. Title track is the best, though. Every song is great. The first side of the record in particular is some of the best work Bowie has ever done imho. I do enjoy this album a lot. Sure it had its flaws and I'm glad that he only did it once, but its still great.
Digging: Goat - Commune. After all it's Bowie.
